Beekeeping & Pottery?
For me, the connection is obvious: they're two of the oldest human endeavors practiced by civilizations around the world. While maintaining an urban colony of the carniolan subspecies, I love to explore the lore and methods of beekeeping affiliated with various cultures. Given our current environmental concerns, my "Bee Yard Collection" of pottery deliberately references the healthy flora necessary for honeybees to thrive.
My additional studio work also reflects my fascination with particular kinds of vessels that evolved from the varying needs of diverse populations. While I certainly make bowls, cups, and plates, I also use the medium to learn about traditional forms such as the Greek askos, Iberian botijo, Mexican tortillero, or Moroccan tagine. Here, I will occasionally write about my ceramic practice, the backdrop that informs it, the places where it takes me, and the ideas to which I've been introduced.
